THINGS TO BRING
Appropriate clothing for Ohio's varying weather.
Ohio has a varying climate with four distinct seasons:
Summer June - August
Fall September - November
Winter December- March
Spring March- June
Temperatures vary considerably from year to year. During spring, summer and fall moderate periods of rainfall occur; snow falls during the winter months and can be heavy. Three basic types of clothing are essential in winter; heavy jackets or overcoats; warm hats; scarves and gloves are needed. During chilly autumn and spring days, jackets are worn outdoors, sweaters indoors. A lightweight jacket is sometimes necessary for cool nights during spring, summer and fall.
We encourage students to bring personal and cultural items from home to help them feel more comfortable and to show to their new American friends. Students may want to bring items they use regularly that may not be readily available, or may be more expensive in the United States.
Helpful Things to Know
Medical costs in the United States are expensive even for minor injuries. Too often International Students decline medical insurance thinking they will never need it and then find themselves in an accident with no way to pay their medical bills. Medical Insurance is optional for Fall 2016 but we strongly encourage you to sign up with our provider. Insurance will become mandatory for every new student starting Spring 2017.
You can find more information about our insurance program, as well as sign up for coverage at the following links. ISP: International Student Protection and ISP Brochure Because this initial fall semester program is optional individual coverage (and as a result is at a higher premium) we recommend that you sign up for only five months (August through December) of coverage initially, for when we switch to a mandatory group plan in January, the monthly costs will be lower.
