Graphic Design Major
Being a student at the University of Findlay means graduating with a strong portfolio including personal works, internships and other freelance projects. Drew has had many opportunities to gain experience and put his talents to work. He has worked as an intern for Blanchard Valley Health Systems in their public relations and marketing department. His work experience is now a part of his electronic portfolio, which you can view by clicking here.
Some of Smith's work will be on display at the University of Findlay long after he graduates. He had the unique opportunity to paint a mural in the Kiefner-Burmeister psychology lab on campus. The lab is devoted to research projects that involve working with children. After 150 hours, Drew had created an original piece of art that spanned three walls from floor to ceiling. He transformed the room into an inviting kid-friendly space that will help youngsters feel comfortable with fun animal characters in different landscapes. He also enjoyed coverage by the campus newspaper, The Pulse.
Smith could have chosen to go to one of the many art schools but decided UF was right for him. He said that he "chose the University of Findlay because it's not too far from home and has a close-knit department in the visual and performing arts. Also, attending a liberal arts college instead of an art school allowed me to learn about much more than art, which was something that was, and still is, important to me." As for his future Drew plans to secure an entry-level job in either a museum or a small firm. He feels that "graphic design is a pretty adaptable major, I try not to limit my options too much by setting fixed sights on a single position."

“I was looking for a small school that would give me a great education and prepare me to step out into the work world. I found that at The University of Findlay! The professors know your name and really get to know you as a person. As a Graphic Design major, the technology labs are great and the faculty works with you one-on-one. We discuss projects, software and anything else I am working on. Many classes deal with issues that you will encounter in the real world, such as dealing with clients and interacting with people in a business setting. The University of Findlay is an excellent choice for anyone wanting small classes, individualized attention and the desire to be challenged.”
