Topic Descriptions:

Academic Advising & Retention: (Glenn Miehsl, Liz Sabel) This session will give an overview of the topics that will be discussed in this year's Faculty Advisor Training Series.  The topics that will be covered are best practices as defined by NACADA.  We will also be discussing retention efforts and challenges that we may face in the upcoming year.

 

Canvas & Zoom Updates: (Steve Clymer, Scott Kidd) This session will provide information on features in Canvas and Zoom. Additional information on fall training will be provided as well. 

 

CTE Fall Updates: (Chris Denecker) The CTE is going virtual this semester! Join us to learn about our programs and events for Fall 2020.

 

Curricular and Global Committee Updates: (Erin Alava, Chris Denecker, Nate Tice) General updates and a 'Calendar of Assessment' will be provided from the Curricular and Global Assessment Committees.

 

​Hot topics in Accommodation: (Nicole Schneider) During this session, we will briefly review the Americans with Disabilities Act, take a look at what constitutes a reasonable accommodation, and what that means for you as an instructor. We will cover hot topics like flexible attendance and assistance animals, and leave plenty of time for your toughest questions.

 

Shafer Library: (Andrew Whitis) Learn about changes to library services for the 2020-21 academic year, including an update on OhioLINK borrowing of physical materials and options for online information literacy instruction.

 

Starfish: (Bill Johnston) An update on features available in Starfish including, Referral updates, Flag updates, and Service updates.

 

Tour the new Writing Center! (And our new website.) ​Learn how students can now self-schedule appointments online through Starfish.  Learn how you can access your students' session notes through any time.  See how the Writing Center can support in a time of COVID-19--appointments in Zoom, by email, and with social distancing in place.

 

UF Recycling/Live Green Updates: (Orion Jones) LAST YEAR

Information will be provided on the development of an overall sustainability campaign regarding how we recycle, process waste (food waste included), water conservation, water detention/retention, purchase, consume, & produce energy.

 

Updates from UF Online: (Carolyn Kraut, Damon Osborne) Learn about new training offerings coming from UF Online and get a refresher on how to access the self-paced Academic Integrity training for both faculty and students.

 

What's In It For Me? How Students Connect CORE+ & Their Majors: (Susan Brooks, Mary Jo Geise, Helen Schneider) Students question why they are required to take general education courses that appear, in their minds, to have little connection to their intended majors. Come and hear the perceptions of UF students on how CORE+ courses prepared them for meaningful lives and productive careers. Trends, themes, and future recommendations will be presented. 

 

Workday HCM Update: (Kim Henley) Human Resources will provide an overview of HCM and allow time for Q&A.

 

Workday FIN Update: (Alison Korte)

Business Affairs will provide an overview of upcoming releases in Workday Finance, Future Enhancements, and open Q&A.

 

Workday STUDENT Update: (Ray McCandless, Anne Wells) Review of Workday Student Roadmap and Calendar, Training Plan (draft) and Change Impact Analysis information.  There will also be time given for Q&A.
