Access Databases Off Campus

Primary Method for Off-Campus Access

To access article and other databases off campus, type in your UFnet account information (email, blackboard login) when you see the UF Resource Authentication page.  You will be prompted to enter this information when you click on a number of resources on the Shafer Library homepage  plus on the UF Libraries Research Guides page when you select Databases A-Z or By Subject.

Secondary Methods for Off-Campus Access

If you cannot log into your UFnet account, you should still be able to access most of Shafer Library's  databases by authenticating through OPAL or OhioLINK.   You will need to use the 14-digit barcode number on the backside of your Student ID (Oiler OneCard & University ID) beginning with 40633 ....

If you are having problems accessing the library's resources, try these following suggestions.

  1. Clear web browser cache and cookies.
  2. Try a different browser- if you are using Firefox, for example, try Chrome or Internet Explorer.
  3. Worksites may have firewalls preventing access- hospitals, companies, schools, and other organizations often have firewalls and other security measures in place which may prevent you from accessing the library’s resources. Try connecting using your own personal device.
  4. Personal computer firewalls and filters can prevent access. Firewall software often gives you options to specify what to allow through your network.
If you still have problems accessing, report your problem to the library at or call 419-434-4549. You may also contact IT Help at or call 419-434-4357.
