Internships
Students undertaking internships will be expected to adhere to the health and safety guidelines of the internship site. Some internships may be completed remotely. Students who are uncomfortable with an internship setting because of health or safety concerns should immediately contact their academic internship supervisor and the
Center for Career and Professional Development.
In the College of Education, internships will take place for introductory courses, pre-professional, methods, and student teaching blocks. Safety protocols required by the partner school district will be required. If K-12 schools move online, teacher candidates are expected to continue to help cooperating teachers in the online format.
Clinical Placements
Clinical experiential education placements are proceeding as scheduled. International experiences have been canceled for the 2020-2021 academic year and have been/are being rescheduled domestically. Out-of-state experiential education experiences may still take place. In the event that a student is displaced from a planned experiential education experience due to practice site policies or opts not to continue with a scheduled experience due to personal health or safety concerns, every effort will be made to reschedule the student in an alternate site and/or mode of interaction that meets the requirements and core objectives necessary for the specific experience as soon as possible. The ability to do so is largely dependent upon external factors. Delays may result in an extended credit (EC) grade until the experience is completed. A student who elects to not proceed with a scheduled experiential education experience after the semester has started due to personal health concerns will not receive a grade penalty; however, a grade of EC until the experience is completed. Students who opt out of a clinical experience prior to the initiation of the semester (and have not started that specific rotation) may drop the course/experience and be rescheduled as soon as possible. In the event that a personal health accommodation is required, the student should reach out to the Office of Accommodation and Inclusion. Any of these scenarios could result in a delay in eligibility for licensure exams. All students will be expected to abide by the health and safety policies at each experiential education experience site as explained by the site preceptors.
University-Related Travel
- Travel is permitted with approval from appropriate Cabinet member or Dean and in accordance with state and local guidelines.
- Use of virtual visits whenever possible is recommended.
- Testing and/or quarantining may be required for employees and students who return from University-sponsored travel.
University-Owned Vehicles
- Passengers are required to disinfect the vehicle prior to use and after each trip.
- Passengers will provide their name and cell phone number to the driver prior to each trip in the event contact tracing is needed.
