Housing Questions
Am I required to live on-campus?

Do I need to fill out a form/application to live off-campus?
Yes. Every student is required to fill out a Housing Application or Exemption form to live either on-campus or off-campus. These can be accessed through the housing portal.
Is a room deposit required?
There is no housing deposit required for on-campus housing.
When will I receive my room assignment?
All students self-select their rooms via the housing portal. Room assignments are always up to date in the housing portal.
When may I move into my room?
Check in can vary each semester. We always recommend watching for communication in your Findlay email and housing portal throughout the year.
What if I would like a different room/single room?
Students can request a room change throughout the academic year if they would like a different room. If a student would like to change their room before they arrive during the summer, waiting lists are available through the housing portal. Single rooms are highly desired and have limited availability. Single rooms are occupied generally by upperclassmen and returning students, and there is no guarantee a student can acquire a single room.

Am I required to have a meal plan?

What are Derrick Dollars?
Derrick Dollars are a part of our meal plan options. Derrick Dollars may be spent at any of our on-campus dining locations or at
several local restaurants. Derrick Dollars may also be bought separately from any meal plan, you can purchase them
here. Derrick Dollars that come with meal plans expire at the end of each semester and are non-refundable.
Room and Building Questions
Will I be able to build a loft in my room?
All rooms are furnished with stackable furniture. A pamphlet offering ideas on how to arrange the furniture will be provided upon move in. Only the components of this loft system (supplied by the University) may be utilized in the configuration of a loft/bunk. No other materials may be attached to the furniture components or used as part of a loft/bunking configuration, including bed-risers.
What are the dimensions of my room?
Room dimensions vary by building and type, general room dimensions can be found on each individual building page.
What is furnished in my room?
Each room has a bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet/wardrobe for each student, except in some houses. Mini-blinds are furnished in each room. UF Houses, UF Apartments, UF Village, and UF Haven residents have carpeted bedrooms.
What size are the mattresses?
All University of Findlay campus housing assignments provide a twin XL mattress.
Is storage space provided?
The University does not provide additional storage spaces. Bikes and scooters can be stored on provided bike racks outside of every campus housing building.
Who is responsible for cleaning my room?
Students are responsible for maintaining their own rooms/spaces. Housekeeping maintains common areas in residence halls.
Are laundry facilities available?
All on-campus assignments have laundry facilities available. Washers and dryers are exclusive only to housed residents in that area.
Are there study floors?
All on-campus living units have "quiet hours" which are in effect from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

General Questions
What can you tell me about on-campus safety and security?
The University of Findlay has a Campus Safety and Emergency Management department that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Blue lights are available across campus for immediate help in the event of an emergency. Police officers and Security officers make regular rounds on campus during the day and throughout the night. Residence Life duty staff also perform rounds and are on duty from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. Only the main entrance doors to residence halls that include offices or classrooms are unlocked from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. All other entrance and exit doors of residence halls and other on-campus housing units are kept locked 24 hours a day. Residents must use their exterior door key to gain access.
Can I bring my car?
Yes. All students are permitted to have a vehicle on campus. You are required to register your vehicle with the University of Findlay Security Office. This may be done during the first week of classes. There is no charge to receive a parking permit. Please refer to University policy here.
Does the University provide personal property insurance?
Insurance for your personal property is not covered by the University of Findlay. This type of coverage commonly falls under your homeowner’s policy. Check with your insurance agent for full details. We encourage you to obtain "Renter’s Insurance" if you are not covered under a homeowner’s policy.
Are there any ATMs on campus?
The University has one ATM located in the Alumni Memorial Union by the Facilities Office, which is operated by Fifth Third Bank.
What should I bring to the University of Findlay?
General items to bring to the University of Findlay include:
- Bedspread/comforter/sheets – Twin XL
- Blankets
- Mattress pad
- Pillow
- Detergent/fabric softener
- Fan - all residence halls are air-conditioned but fans are a nice addition
- First aid/cold medicine
- Flashlight
- Hair dryer

General items and policies mentioned above also apply to apartments or houses. Students are allowed to bring kitchen appliances such as toasters, crockpots, or similar items as long as they abide by the prohibited items policy which can be found here. General recommended items for apartments or houses include:
