Great Lakes Grant Program

Through this grant, UF gives low-income juniors and seniors the chance to work in their field of study—and enter the job market after graduation on equal footing with their wealthier peers. Through the five semesters of placements so far, 84 unique students have participated in 123 internships with 44 employer partners, earning more than $175,000.

Students

Our grant-funded internships are developed ahead of time with our employer partners and positions are posted on Purple Briefcase. These internships are paid either $10, $12, or $15 per hour. To participate in a grant-funded internship, the following student eligibility requirements apply:

  1. You must be a junior or senior at the time of the internship
  2. You must have demonstrated unmet financial need (determined via your FAFSA)
  3. Maintain Title IV academic progress
  4. We're generally focusing on majors within our Colleges of Business, Liberal Arts, and Sciences. However, being a student within another college doesn't necessarily preclude your participation.
If you're interested in participating, but unsure of your eligibility status, email Alexis ([email protected]) and she'll follow up with you.

In addition to the funds provided by Great Lakes, UF is also making a significant commitment to the program by raising incremental matching funds. By sharing the cost, we're doing our part to sustain the program beyond 2018 to continue giving students the benefits paid internships.
