some tips for freshmen

A letter from Kay Koch, Director, Oiler Success Center

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Fall semester of freshman year is completed and that’s an accomplishment for everyone in the family, your family and ours. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many students and also speaking with some of you.

By this time students should have become acquainted with their advisers, learned their way around campus and met new friends.  Next time you talk with your student, you might ask if they know about the free tutoring service where they can also receive help with time management and practical hints to help develop their study skills (Academic Support Center, Old Main 45).

Has your son/daughter joined one of the more than 80 clubs, professional organizations and honor societies on campus? Does he or she participate in intramurals (contact Bryan Golding – ext. 4842)? Have they gone to a play, a concert or cheered on one of the UF athletic teams? Perhaps they have participated in theatre or performed on stage with one of the musical programs or contributed to one of the athletic teams. Has your freshman had a chance to visit with Crystal Weitz in the Campus Compact Office (212 Howard St.) to find out about service learning opportunities?

The University of Findlay has much to offer. I encourage you to share this letter with your UF student as they look forward to the completion of their freshman year in May 2014. I want to be able to connect to our students and to ensure this, please encourage them to stop by my office in Old Main. The University of Findlay is an exciting place for students and parents! My door is open to your son/daughter whether they stop by to visit or need help with a specific issue.

Sincerely,

Kay Koch Director,
