CHMM

HMM’s Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM ®) credential is an “Environmental Professional” under EPA regulation 40 CFR §312.10 and recognizes your expertise and the significant impact you make on your community and your country. Corporations, universities, and government depend on the CHMM certification to identify environmental professionals like you. By earning the CHMM credential, you join a unique community of over 17,000 of your peers who have demonstrated their commitment to professional excellence and protecting the environment and the public’s health and safety. The CHMM is IHMM’s first credential, the first recipients of which received their credentials in May 1, 1984.

IHMM’s Student Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (ST/CHMM™) credential recognizes students who wish to demonstrate their development of knowledge and skills in hazardous materials management while pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree. Student CHMMs are also eligible for the IHMM Dr. John H. Frick Memorial Scholarship, a $32,000 program to assist our student certificates with the costs of their education.

After You Graduate with your Student CHMM designation, Graduate to the Associate Hazardous Materials Manager [AHMM] designation

The ESOH Department has been approved, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, for the Associate Safety and Health Management (ASHM) program. This approval allows our students to be recognized with the student ASHM designation and makes them eligible to apply for the full ASHM designation.

This recognition enables our students to apply for scholarships through the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management website. Additionally, it shortens the required field experience for students to sit for the Certified Safety and Health Manager exam from four years to just two. IHMM’s Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM™) credential recognizes professionals who are recent Bachelor’s degree graduates with a focus in health and safety-related fields. This credential puts the holder on the fast-track to the CSHM credential. Professionals can put their careers in EHS Management on fast-track by earning the ASHM credential. There’s no exam required to earn this credential. The ASHM credential is an important stepping stone to the accredited CSHM™ certification. Students earning a Bachelor’s Degree from an approved institution only have to demonstrate two years of experience, instead of four, to sit for the CSHM exam.

With ASHM on your resume, you tell employers you’re serious about a career in EHS Management.
