First coming to Findlay College as a chemistry professor in 1921, Carroll A. Morey was named dean in 1930. With the April 1943 leave-of-absence granted to President Dunathan, Morey was named acting president. The ninth administrator of the College, Morey remained acting president after Dunathan's resignation in February 1946. He led the College through highs and lows in enrollment during World War II. The College's financial picture improved during his tenure. Generations of students recalled both his academic rigor and his puckish sense of humor. He often appeared uncomfortable in the limelight and consistently refused to accept an honorary doctoral degree from Findlay.
He served the College full and part-time from 1921 to 1972, a total of 51 years. Morey continued in his role as acting president until July 1, 1947, when he returned to his preferred position as a chemistry and geology teacher and dean of the college. Upon his retirement in 1958, he was named dean emeritus of Findlay College. Morey Residence Hall was named for him in 1964 in honor of his extended service to the College.
