Kathleen Crates, Ph.D.

A thirty-five year veteran of K-12 public education for the Findlay City Schools, Dr. Kathleen Crates joined the faculty of The University of Findlay, her alma mater, as an Assistant Professor. Prior to joining the College of Education, she served as Director of Student Services, High School Principal, Middle School Principal, Assistant High School Principal and a teacher of special education and elementary education, all in Findlay City Schools. Dr. Crates was chosen as the Ohio Principal of the Year, Ohio Pioneer in Education, and she received the Ohio Association of Secondary Schools Distinguished Service Award.

Kathleen graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Findlay in elementary education. She received her Master of Education degree from Bowling Green State University in special education and in1992 she received her doctorate from Bowling Green State University in Educational Administration.

Before coming to the University of Findlay full time, Kathleen served as an adjunct professor for both University of Findlay and Bowling Green State University. Since 2011, when Kathleen joined the College of Education, she has taught classes in the following areas: Educational Administration, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education. In addition, she serves in the EdD program as a chair of multiple dissertation committees.

Kathleen has presented for local, state, regional, national and international conferences.  She also co-authored with Dr. Nicole Williams and Dr. Jon Brasfield an article in the Ohio Council of Professors of Educational Administration Journal.

In her spare time, she reads, swims, is active in her church and she also serves on multiple community boards of directors. However, her favorite pastime is spending time with her two grown children, their spouses, her five grandchildren and the many pets they have on her farm.
