In the spring semester of 2018, University of Findlay's Buford Center for Diversity and Service began the Friendship Family Program (FFP). The FFP facilitates connections between new international students and a Findlay campus family, provides an opportunity for an intercultural experience, and builds a greater understanding and appreciation for cultural diversity. Students and their FFP family are encouraged to connect with one another, gain new experiences in America and learn more about each other's culture.
The FFP is a volunteer program, and families who have participated found the program to be exceptionally rewarding. Students feel their families are a valuable connection point, friend, and resource while attending courses at the University of Findlay.
Students and families are encouraged to meet with one another 3-5 times during the semester, allowing participants to learn more about different cultures, traditions and languages. Meetings between the student and family may include attending a concert or campus activity, seeing a movie, visiting a museum, getting coffee together, celebrating a holiday or birthday, or attending other family gatherings. Additionally, we typically hold two events for the whole group including a group outing and potluck.
The families in the Friendship Family Program do not provide housing for international students who participate in this program, nor do they provide assistant for financial, academic, medical or psychological problems.
