Classroom Experience, Abroad

Participating in a study abroad experience planned specifically for education majors is an experience you'll never forget. In addition to general study abroad experiences, education students at Findlay have the opportunity to experience international classrooms. With partnerships in schools in three different countries, students can travel for a three-week immersion, or complete a semester of student teaching abroad.

"I began studying abroad because I wanted to learn more about other people in the world and myself by stepping out of my comfort zone. I had previously done a study abroad trip for my gen-ed courses in Italy, France, and Spain, but going on a study abroad trip in my major was much more useful for my future career and helped to keep building my passion for education. I feel that I got more out of the experience because I was able to focus on the educational strategies and ideas I want to use in my future classroom." - Jacqui Morris, Adolescent/Young Adult Life Science

Japan

Students in the College of Education have the chance to learn about and engage in the culture of Japan and experience the educational system in this East Asian country by interacting with teachers and students in local schools. This 3-week experience occurs in mid-late May and is part of an exchange program between the University of Findlay and the University of Fukui.

When first looking at studying abroad, I thought to myself that I would learn so many new things. I would be able to take what I learned in the schools in Japan and bring it back to America and share it with everyone else. This study abroad trip taught me so much and if I wouldn't have gone, I wouldn't have learned new great ways of teaching. Learning about a new culture in the country not in the classroom is such a great experience.  - Savannah Harvey, Early Childhood Education Major
