How Librarians Help
Shafer Library’s information literacy program seeks to develop learners who are effective consumers and users of information. We can customize instruction sessions to fit into a variety of curriculums. These lessons can cover such skills as developing effective research strategies, navigating the library's databases, and evaluating sources.
ENG 104 & 106
The foundation of our information literacy program is in ENG 104 and 106, where we prepare students to become effective researchers as they enter their disciplines. These instruction sessions teach the following skills:
- Developing a research strategy (including selecting an appropriate topic, writing a research question, identifying keywords, and conducting pre-research)
- Using library databases, focusing on Academic Search Complete, to efficiently locate information on a topic
