Borrowing Library Materials


UF Students, Faculty & Staff

Current UF students, faculty, and staff may freely borrow library materials from Shafer Library and OhioLINK


Shafer Library

  • Books loan period: 4 weeks, up to 4 renewals (faculty/staff loan period is full semester)
  • DVDs loan period: 1 week, 1 renewal
  • Non-circulating items: reference books and journals
Replacement Costs
  • Replacement cost for lost materials: $125.00
  • Damaged books: An amount to be determined by the nature and extent of the damage, not to exceed the price of the book.

OhioLINK

  • Books loan period: 3 weeks; up to 6 renewals unless a hold is on the item (faculty have 6 weeks; up to 6 renewals)
  • DVDs loan period: 1 week; up to 3 renewals
Replacement Costs

  • Replacement cost for lost materials: $125.00
  • Damaged books: An amount to be determined by the nature and extent of the damage, not to exceed the price of the book.


Alumni & Community Use of Shafer Library & OhioLINK

Community Borrower Card
If you choose to purchase a community borrower card, you will need to show a valid picture ID. Borrowers between the ages of 14 and 18 need signature of parent or guardian on the application.
  • The library card costs $10.00 and is valid for one year. The cost to replace lost cards is $1.00.
  • Books and government documents may be borrowed for: 4 weeks, 1 renewal
  • DVDs may be borrowed for: 1 week, 1 renewal
  • The maximum number of UF items you may have checked out to your record is 10
Overdue Fines & Replacement Costs
  • All overdue items: $0.10 per day
  • Lost materials: cost of book + overdue fines + $10.00 processing fee
