Submitting Requests for Articles & Books

If you cannot find a specific book or article through Shafer Library, you may submit special requests to the library to obtain a copy.

Who Can Use the Service?

Current UF students, faculty or staff.

What May Be Requested?

  • Articles you cannot locate electronically or in print through Shafer Library.

  • Books and other items not owned by Shafer Library and not available through the OhioLINK Library Catalog.

    • Exception: Shafer Library will not request course textbooks for students.

How Long Does it Take for Materials to Arrive?

  • Articles may take 2 days or more. Articles arrive electronically and are sent to you via email.

  • Books typically take one week or longer to arrive because they are sent by mail. You will be notified when they arrive.

What Does It Cost?

Shafer Library tries to find libraries that lend their materials free of charge. However, the request forms allow you to choose the amount you are willing to pay.

Before Making an ILL Request

  • If you are looking for an article in a particular journal, magazine or newspaper, check in Journal Finder to determine whether it is available full text.
  • If you are looking for a book, check in the OhioLINK Library Catalog to determine whether it is available. If so, request the item directly through the catalog.
