Student Health Insurance

Things to consider when deciding to enroll or waive the student health insurance:

  • Will your current plan cover medical care beyond emergency services (i.e. provider’s office visits, diagnostic testing, x-rays, prescription drugs, mental health, etc.) in the Findlay, Ohio area?
  • Does your plan have providers, hospitals and laboratories in the Findlay, Ohio area?
  • Does your current insurance plan provide coverage while you are in Findlay for non-urgent care? Many private health insurance plans, especially HMOs, may not provide coverage for non-emergency, out of network medical care (including laboratory services, x-rays, specialist referrals, etc.), or may require prior authorization from your primary healthcare provider.
  • Does your current insurance plan provide coverage for mental health services or physical therapy in Findlay?
  • All students can be seen at Cosiano Health Center at no cost regardless of what insurance plan they have. However, depending on what service is performed there may be a cost that needs to be covered by insurance. An example of this is if a lab test is done, Cosiano would need to send that lab work out for analysis (to Blanchard Valley Hospital).
  • Does your insurance cover prescriptions that are not written by a primary care provider?
  • It is your responsibility to check with your health insurance company to assure your current health insurance plan will cover you while in this area attending the University of Findlay.
  • Adequate health insurance coverage is essential to avoid out of pocket expenses and/or delays in accessing services in the event off-campus medical care becomes necessary.
  • Check the cost – is the annual cost of the student plan less expensive than the cost of being added as a dependent to your parents’ or guardians’ plan?
  • Are there administrative pre-requirements, pre-certification, or primary care provider referrals required under your current plan that may delay receipt of care?
  • It is important to have a conversation with your insurance company to verify what is and is not covered while your’re attending the University of Findlay so you can make an informed decision about enrolling or waiving the coverage.

Students and their families are encouraged to explore the policy by reviewing the Summary of Benefits and the Certificate of Coverage. These documents are available at UHCSR's student health insurance resource page: www.uhcsr.com/findlay

In Summer 2024, UF will announce the 2024-25 student health insurance policy, rates & requirements. So long as the University's insurance requirements do not change, students will have an opportunity to submit a waiver request for the 2024-25 academic year. Decisions regarding waiver approval or denial will be based on the student health insurance requirements in place at the time the decision is rendered.
