Hunter-Jumper Emphasis

Become a Professional in the Equestrian World

English Equestrian rider at competionUniversity of Findlay's Hunter/Jumper emphasis is unlike any other program of its kind.  Our specialized Hunter/Jumper track began in 1992 at the start of the English Equestrian Studies program and quickly developed into one of the top programs in the country. The Hunter/Jumper program gives interested riders the opportunity to immerse themselves in every facet of the industry through classes like Fundamentals of Equitation, Advanced Training & Riding, Preventative Medicine, Equine Nutrition, Farm & Stable Management, Equine Judging and more.

Throughout their time in the program, our students are urged to accept internships and working student positions with many industry professionals, including but not limited to University of Findlay alumni.  Our network of Findlay English Equestrian Studies graduates encompasses a large number of industry professionals around the country working in almost every aspect of the equine industry.

University of Findlay's Hunter/Jumper emphasis is lucky to be in close proximity to the newly renovated World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, OH. Faculty members offer students the opportunity to show University-owned horses at A and AA competitions, with no lease fee required. Students are able to delve into the world of USEF/USHJA rated competitions, with some of the highest caliber of horses, trainers, and riders competing at WEC. Our diverse Hunter/Jumper herd of horses comes from a wide variety of backgrounds, from the Children's Hunters up to the Grand Prix level. They are happy to take Findlay students to top placings at rated competitions on a regular basis.

Although separate from the Hunter/Jumper Equestrian studies program, our nationally ranked Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat Team is another point of pride for our English Equestrian studies program. This varsity sport has seen success over the last twenty years in all levels of IHSA collegiate competition. The University of Findlay team consistently qualifies for Nationals year in and year out, has won the Zone 6 Region 1 Championship for the last 18 consecutive years and has had many individual riders represent Findlay in the prestigious Cacchione Cup class. Most recently in 2016, the team finished 3rd overall at the IHSA National Championship and in 2018 finished 8th. Tryouts for the IHSA Hunt Seat Team are held every August and are open to all University of Findlay undergraduates, regardless of major.

No matter what the goal, whether it be to become an industry trainer/coach/professional, work in equine sports medicine, pursue equine photography or graphic design, work as barn management, or launch entrepreneurial equine ventures, the University of Findlay Hunter/Jumper emphasis has something to offer everyone.
