Multi-Factor Authentication in Workday

5/17/2018

Starting on Sunday, June 24th, multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the University of Findlay will become part of the process of logging into Workday for all faculty, staff, and students.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a two-step verification process that will be used to log on to the UF Workday website. This process adds an extra layer of security/protection in addition to your username and password. With MFA, you will log into the UF Workday website and be prompted for your UFnet username and password (the first authentication factor). You will then be prompted for an authentication code from your MFA device* (the second authentication factor). Taken together, these multiple factors provide increased security for your account settings and resources.

MFA is simply a way to help ensure that the person trying to log in is who they say they are, by going beyond just your username and password.

*MFA device – smart phone, office phone, tablet, or token (see below for additional information).

Why is the University of Findlay implementing Multi-Factor Authentication?

The University of Findlay is implementing MFA to provide additional measures to protect your UFnet account from being compromised. UFnet accounts are increasingly being targeted by hackers trying to gain access to sensitive personal and organizational information. The dramatic rise in scope and sophistication of these targeted phishing attacks can be a direct threat to our information security.

How does Multi-Factor Authentication work?

MFA works by requiring an additional piece of verification in addition to your password before you are allowed to access any protected services. Most commonly, this additional step will be done via a mobile app installed on your smart phone or tablet. A text notification can be sent to your mobile (or office) phone; or, if no other device is available, a hardware token can be assigned to you.

Next Steps

Workday launches on Sunday, June 24th. To get ready, ITS is offering assistance with setting up the MFA app on your smart phone/tablet or providing you a hardware token if you do not possess a mobile phone.

We have created a space in Shafer Library where you can stop and receive assistance with configuring the MFA app, as well as get support for Workday.

Workday Lounge will open Monday, May 21st,  in Shafer Library Room 120-121 with the following hours:
