Middle Childhood Licensure

Add a middle childhood license to your degree

A middle childhood license in Ohio allows you to teach in grades 4-9.

If you already hold a bachelors degree from a nationally accredited institution then you may qualify for our post baccalaureate licensure program.

Our post baccalaureate middle childhood licensure consists of:

  • Completion of Ohio Department of Education approved licensure curriculum (individual curricula dependent upon approved transferrable coursework)
  • 24 hours from two different content areas:
    • Language Arts
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • Mathematics
  • 3 level assessments (linked to coursework)
  • The following state required tests:  Assessment of Professional Knowledge:  Middle Childhood (4-9) (#002), Middle Childhood Language Art (#028), Middle Childhood Math (#030, Middle Childhood Social Studies (#031), Middle Childhood Science (#029), Middle Childhood Generalist (#018 & #019 OR other two content tests listed prior; additional coursework required)

Students must maintain a 3.00 GPA, pass all three level assessments and state required tests to earn a Letter of Program Completion.

Diversify yourself even more by adding 5 specific graduate courses to earn a Master of Arts in Education.
