Reading Endorsement

The reading endorsement gives educators the knowledge base to effectively teach reading to all grade levels. It also fulfills the credentials required for the Ohio Department of Education's Third Grade Guarantee.

UF's reading endorsement is a series of five online graduate courses that can be taken in any order so it can be completed within one calendar year at your convenience. A state test is also required to receive this endorsement. If you hold an Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, or Intervention Specialist license in Ohio then you are required to take a 12-hour reading core.

TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)

The TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) endorsement prepares students for careers in cross-cultural settings. The skills learned in this field prepare students to excel in the field of education and English throughout the world. The kind of success that follows students who complete this program offers a type of job security unlike many others.

Our TESOL endorsement prepares students to teach English Language Learners (ELL), the fastest growing population of school-aged children with more than 35,000 students in Ohio public schools alone.  Adding TESOL to your credentials can provide more options.

Early Childhood Educators

Early Childhood Generalist

The endorsement is an excellent way to grow professionally as a teacher, earn credits toward a master’s degree and expand employability.  UF’s Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement program requires successful completion of three courses (EDSP 554 – Math that includes 20 hours of observation, EDSP 555 - Science, and EDSP 556 – Social Studies) and passage of the OAE Elementary Education (Subtest I) 018 and OAE Elementary Education (Subtest II) 019.

Middle Childhood Educators

Middle Childhood Generalist

The University of Findlay is one of only a few institutions in the State of Ohio that offers the Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement. This endorsement allows you to teach in a self-contained 4th, 5th, or 6th grade classroom. The endorsement may be earned in one content area or the two content areas that are not on your original Middle Childhood License.

Teachers holding a Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement may only teach the endorsed content in grades 4-6.  Each endorsement requires the passage of two specific content area classes with grades of "C" or higher and passage of the Ohio Assessments for Educators test.
