Course Sections

Course schedules are managed in Workday. College Deans, Department Chairs, and Administrative Assistants have the ability to create or cancel course sections and make edits to both preliminary and published schedules. Each year, course schedules are rolled forward to the next academic calendar one year in advance. Finalized schedules are published approximately one month before registration opens.

Course Cross-Listing Form

The Canvas Cross-Listing Form is used when you are teaching two classes and would like them combined in Canvas into one class. The Parent Course will be the main course that you are teaching that you want everything combined into. The Child Course is the secondary course that you want to be combined into the main course.  If there is a Secondary instructor for the Parent or Child course, you enter their information in the appropriate area of this form. After you complete this form and hit Submit, a ticket is automatically generated and sent to the appropriate Academic Technology Support individual for processing.  Please allow for sufficient time for processing and then check Canvas to ensure your requested courses are cross-listed properly.

Please contact UF-ITS with any further questions/concerns.

Student Learning Outcome Time Expectation Form

It is expected that students will need to complete a minimum of 2250 minutes (37.5 hours) of work for each semester hour earned.  The work expectation may be satisfied with both in-class and out-of-class time.  There is an approved amount of in-class time associated with the credit hour expectation.  If a course does not meet all of the approved in-class time, it is required that an explanation of how the missed in-class time will be incorporated into the out-of-class time.  The form below must be completed to show how the minimum time expectation will be satisfied.

Independent/Directed Study Request

Students who are unable to attend a scheduled class due to a time conflict or other special circumstances may be eligible to complete the course through a directed or independent study with an additional per-course fee. A directed study occurs when the course is offered during the term but the student cannot meet at the scheduled time. An independent study occurs when the course is not included in the approved schedule for that term.

Directed/independent study requests must be submitted in Workday by the course instructor. Once submitted, the request routes automatically for approval by the department chair and the appropriate college dean. After all approvals are obtained, the Office of the Registrar processes the request and notifies the student to register for the course.

The Directed/Independent Study request form is available in the instructor's Workday Teaching Dashboard under Requests.

Honors Contract Courses Request

Honors contract courses require approval from both the course instructor and the Honors Executive Board. Eligible Honors contract courses include HNRS 370, HNRS 371, HNRS 372, HNRS 373, HNRS 375, and HNRS 495.

Instructors may submit an Honors course request through their Workday Teaching Dashboard under Requests.

Course Section Sharing (i.e. cross-listed course sections)

A form in Workday should be used when two or more course sections will be meeting during the same time and location.  The form should be submitted before course sections are published.  You will need to determine if the class capacities should be tracked separately or as one. This form can also be used to combine the attendance and/or grading rosters in Workday.

To get to this form, type “Create Request" into the Workday search bar, select the task, and then select the “Course Section Sharing" request type from the drop-down menu.
