Job Scams
Scammers are getting better and better at disguising their scams as legitimate job opportunities. It can be difficult to differentiate between real job offers and scams, but these tips can help you recognize and avoid job scams. If you’re unsure about a job posting, contact our office and we can help! To report a scam, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
- Never share personal information like your social security number or bank account number through phone or email.
- Don’t apply to jobs that are emailed to you from unknown senders.
- Never agree to cash checks or wire money to a potential employer.
- Research the employer and read reviews from current and former employees and clients. Look for the job posting on the company’s main career page.
- Be wary of multi-level marketing companies (MLMs) and pyramid schemes. They often promise high pay and flexible hours, but only a small percentage of their employees see these benefits.
- If an opportunity sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam!
