Computer Recommendations

Whether you’re bringing a device from home or planning to buy a new one, we’ve put together some tech recommendations to help you succeed at the University of Findlay. To stay secure and up-to-date, we recommend using the latest operating system and keeping your software updated regularly.

Once you’re officially enrolled at the University of Findlay, you’re welcome to connect your personal devices to our campus-wide network.

  • Wired Connection: Requires an Ethernet network interface card (NIC) and a network cable.
  • Wireless Connection: Requires a wireless network card that supports 802.11 b/g/n.
  • Online Students: Must have access to high-speed internet (dial-up is not supported).

As a UF student, you can have free access ot Microsoft Office 365 Education. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more!  You can use these tools use on your personal computer or mobile device throughout your enrollment.

Log in below with your UFnet account username and password to get started.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Please keep in mind that these are the following authentication methods available for MFA:

  • Mobile Device App (can work both with or without cell service)
    • Free to download
    • Can work offline when cellular or data connectivity isn’t available
    • Using the app for your MFA method, you can open the app to use the 6-digit code provided for logging in (Note: This 6-digit code will change every 30 seconds, so use the most current code.)
  • Text to Mobile Device (requires cell service)
    • The text message will send you a 6-digit code to be used logging in.
  • Call to Mobile Device (requires cell service)
    • You can receive a phone call to get logged in.
  • Hardware Token (does not require cell service)
    • The token is a small (keychain size) code-generating device used for MFA. The token does not require connectivity of any sort (note: This 6-digit code will change every 30 seconds, so use the most current code.)
    • If you think using the token is the best option, please send in a Help Desk ticket so we can register one to you.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) provides increased security for UF account settings and resources. MFA prevents anyone but you from using your account to log into University systems, even if they know your UF password. MFA has become the industry/education standard to prevent compromise and loss of sensitive data. The University currently uses MFA to log into Workday, Canvas, and Zoom. You will be notified as ITS phases in other UF systems into MFA.

All University of Findlay employees are required to use MFA for logging into University systems (Canvas, Workday, and Zoom) beginning August 1, 2019. Faculty and staff cannot opt out of using MFA for any system.

No. Simply go into the Microsoft Authenticator app (on your phone or MFA device) and use the 6-digit verification code to enter into the application portal. When you are logging in, be sure to choose the “enter verification code” button to input the 6-digit code. NOTE: If you are traveling, the MFA verification code does NOT require any data or connectivity; it can be done when your phone is offline.

The verification codes only last for 30 seconds and are then refreshed to provide a new code. Simply type in the new code and try again.

The (free) Microsoft Authenticator mobile app is the best option. You can download the app via Apple iTunes and Google Play Store. Once downloaded, register your phone on the MFA log-in page, and you will be ready for access from any location. We also recommend verifying and testing your MFA device before leaving.

Remember to register your new phone number or temporary international number. Choose the “Change My MFA Settings” on the log-in screen for either Workday, Canvas, or Zoom. Once there, log in and choose the “Change Phone” icon; enter your new number and save. If you change your SIM card to an international SIM, this method of using two-step authentication will continue to work without additional setup. However, other methods (like texting or phone call) will understandably stop working if you have a new SIM card. NOTE: If this is a temporary phone number, remember to change it back when you are done using it.

You can contact the Help Desk by emailing helpdesk@findlay.edu, calling at 419-434-4357, or visiting the Knowledge Bar in Shafer Library. ITS will send an email to campus announcing scheduled MFA help sessions.
