Overview
About the Program
University of Findlay’s English major equips students with highly transferable skills in writing, critical thinking, and communication, preparing them for success across a wide range of careers. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students engage with diverse literary genres, writing strategies, and research methods while learning to analyze and communicate ideas effectively in a variety of contexts.
Students can tailor their experience by choosing from three areas of emphasis:
- Creative Writing
- Public and Professional Writing
- Teaching
Each emphasis allows students to deepen their expertise while developing a strong understanding of audience, rhetoric, and cultural context. Beyond the classroom, the program offers rich experiential learning opportunities, including editorial and project management work on the staff of UF’s two literary magazines Slippery Elm and Writers’ Kitchen, internships, undergraduate research, conference presentations, and peer tutor work in the University’s Writing Center. With opportunities to study abroad, interact with published authors, and build a professional portfolio, students graduate as adaptable, thoughtful communicators ready to thrive in today’s dynamic workforce.
