About Western Youth Horsemanship School
University of Findlay is presenting a youth western horsemanship school to further educate interested riders. The school offers the same techniques that are taught in the University’s Western Equestrian Studies Program.
There are two types of sessions available:
- Novice/Intermediate Session (ages 10-18): June 20-23, 2026
- Advanced Rider Session (ages 12-19): June 23-27, 2026
- Students applying for the Advanced Rider Session must submit a video of their riding or letter of recommendation. Acceptance is based on approval by equestrian staff.
There are a limited number of horses available for lease at each session for the additional cost of $100. If you are not planning on bringing your own horse, please call the Western office at 419-434-4656 to confirm horse availability.
The following vaccinations are required for all horses. Please bring records to verify.
- Negative Coggins test.
- Flu, Rhino, Tetanus and Strangles vaccinations.
- Deworm your horse two weeks before arrival.
- Sawdust, cleaning equipment, water, and feed buckets are provided by the University.
- You may bring your own feed.
- Parking is available if you prefer to leave your trailer.
Western Youth Horsemanship School
What to Expect
- Instruction is given by Art O’Brien and Brandon Morin.
- Instruction will cover horsemanship, western pleasure, showmanship, and the fundamentals of ranch riding .
- Each student will work with their own horse under the personal supervision of the equestrian staff.
- Lectures and demonstrations will be given daily to enhance each student’s skills.
- Along with individual and class instruction, there will be evening video analysis to review each rider’s progress.
- Students will also participate in recreational activities on UF’s main campus.

Tuition and Benefits
Tuition:
- $625 – Novice/Intermediate session
- $700 – Advanced session
($200 non-refundable deposit is required)
Included in the cost is the following:
