Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
College Credit Plus students are college students. They have ownership and control of their educational records. These records are now only accessible by the student. According to FERPA, college students, regardless of their age, are considered responsible adults who are allowed to determine who will receive personal information about them. While parents understandably have an interest in a student’s academic progress, they are not automatically granted access to a student’s records without written consent of that student. Parents are encouraged to consult with their student, if academic information is needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
College Credit Plus is Ohio’s dual enrollment program that allows students, grades 7-12, the opportunity to earn high school and college credit at the same time. Courses can be taken on UF’s campus, online, or a partnering high school campus.
All college course tuition, fees, and textbooks will be covered by the state of Ohio’s school foundation funds. Nonpublic school and homeschooled students must apply for funding each school year through an OH|ID account. Those students who go over their allotted credits may choose to pay for additional credits out of pocket.
First, your student will need to submit the intent to participate form to their high school by April 1st. Students who do not submit the intent to participate form on time to their high school are not guaranteed participation in College Credit Plus.
Next, they will need to complete an online application to the University of Findlay (https://apply.findlay.edu/portal/apply-now). Make sure to complete the College Credit Plus application! Their school counselor will need to send UF a copy of their transcript (admissions@findlay.edu) and they will need to submit any test scores (if required) and/or forms. If your student needs to take the Accuplacer or placement tests they can schedule to do so through the CCP advisor.
Finally, students will need to sit down with their school counselor to discuss which courses they may need for graduation. If they are taking classes at their high school, students will work with their school counselor to ensure registration. If they are taking classes at UF or online, they should reach out to their campus advisor to schedule an orientation session before registering. Students should work with both their high school counselor and their CCP advisor if they are taking classes both at the high school and at UF/online.
Absolutely! Nonpublic or homeschooled students will need to follow specific guidelines in order to receiving funding from the state. For more information, please visit the state’s website.
Students must complete 15 credits of Level I (link to document) courses first before taking any other courses. After 15 credits of Level I courses have been earned, students may take any other course at UF as long as they have met the prerequisites of the course. Non-allowable courses include:
- Private applied courses with one-on-one instruction
- Courses with high fees
- Study abroad course
- Physical education courses
- Pass/Fail graded courses
- Remedial courses or sectarian/religions courses
School counselors should work with students to determine the number of courses allowed each year. Students can enroll in up to 30 credits per year, however, this does include their middle school/high school coursework.
Credits earned while enrolled in UF’s College Credit Plus program may transfer to other colleges or universities. It is best to work with the college or university your student is planning on enrolling in after high school to determine how the coursework will transfer. You can also create a free account on Transferology (www.transferology.com) to look up possible transfer options. Students must request a transcript online to be sent to their postsecondary institution.
