About Graduate Assistantships

A graduate assistantship is a unique opportunity for graduate students to gain meaningful professional experience while pursuing their advanced degree at the University of Findlay. Types of Graduate Assistantships

The University of Findlay offers several types of assistantship opportunities to match students’ academic and professional goals:

• Graduate Assistants (GA): Support a variety of campus offices and programs, including general administrative roles and athletic positions
• Teaching Assistants (TA-2): Assist faculty members with teaching-related duties such as grading, class preparation, or tutoring.
• Teaching Assistants (TA): Serve as the primary instructor for designated undergraduate courses, gaining direct teaching experience.
• Research Assistants (RA): Collaborate with faculty on research projects, including data collection, analysis, and scholarly writing.

2026-2027 Graduate Assistantship Process

• January  19, 2026: Application for faculty to request assistantship positions opens for submissions.
• February 20, 2026: Last day for faculty/staff/program to submit a request for a graduate assistantship position.    
• March 13, 2026: Approval/denials completed and notifications sent to faculty/staff/programs.    
• March 27, 2026: Approved positions begin to be posted for students to apply in Workday.

Description of TA and RA

Teaching Assistants (TA): Serve as the primary instructor for designated undergraduate courses, gaining direct teaching experience.
Research Assistants (RA): Collaborate with faculty on research projects, including data collection, analysis, and scholarly writing.

Funding

Teaching Assistant (TA) – Primary duty is teaching

• Students may receive up to 3, 6, or 12 graduate credit hours of tuition remission, depending on position, per academic year.
• Timeline to apply: Process begins around late-March and will continue through August

Research Assistant (RA) – Primary duty is to assist faculty with research activities

• Students may receive up to 3, 6, or 12 graduate credit hours of tuition remission, depending on position, per academic year.
• Timeline to apply: Process begins around late-March and will continue through August
