Animal Science –
Pre-Vet Option

The University of Findlay Animal Science program is nationally recognized for its rigorous, hands-on curriculum.

About the Program

The Animal Science – Pre-Vet Studies program was built with input from veterinary schools to make sure students are ready — both in the classroom and with real animal experience — before applying to vet school.

University of Findlay is known for its hands-on approach, giving students access to top multi-species facilities where they work directly with animals under the guidance of Animal Science experts and licensed veterinarians from the very start of their first year. Our students arrive from all types of backgrounds — farm, suburban, and urban — and our graduates leave prepared for meaningful lives and productive careers.

Our strong academic curriculum combined with practical animal handling allows students to satisfy veterinary school prerequisites and provides a strong foundation in animal health, physiology, nutrition, genetics, and animal production. Pre-Vet students also have the opportunity to take a seminar course to assist them in the veterinary school application and interview process.

The Pre-Veterinary Medicine Option majors who gain early admission at the end of their junior year to a professional program of study, will be granted a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Findlay contingent upon having completed 102 hours, all CORE+ general education courses, and successful completion of the first year of veterinary school studies.

Animal Science Facilities

University of Findlay’s Animal Science Building and Pre-Veterinary Barn are located at the Western Farm, just seven miles south of campus. Built in 2009, the 31,000-square-foot Animal Science Building features modern labs and classrooms that support livestock programs, breeding, and research.

During your first two years, you’ll spend a lot of time at these facilities learning hands-on skills like animal handling, nutrition, restraint, and behavior — building a strong foundation in animal agriculture to prepare you for your future career.
