Course Requirements
The Superintendent Licensure Program consists of required courses.
The courses offered to ensure that you will be prepared to face all the responsibilities of a school district leader:
- Our intro course EDAD 610 The Superintendent is designed to explore various leadership styles, quality management structures, decision-making skills and approaches to organizational development.
- The need for the school and community to work collaboratively on a shared vision is also addressed. This will provide the necessary base for your future classes.
- Other courses go more in-depth on topics such as the finances, planning and efficient use of school facilities (EDAD 611)
- Maintaining cooperative relationships between educational institutions and the community (EDAD 612)
- The process and impact of collective bargaining on a district as well as standards and processes of hiring and employee relationships (EDAD 613).
Candidates complete EDAD 614 Superintendent Internship. This course is offered fall, spring, and summer.

Admission Requirements
This State Approved Superintendent Training leads to an Ohio Superintendent License and is for individuals who meet the following requirements.
- Have obtained a Master’s Degree
- Three years of successful experience in a position requiring a principal or administrative specialist license
- Completion of an approved preparation program for superintendents
- Pass a criminal background check
To be considered for full admission to graduate programs, candidates must:
- Have a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work or a graduate GPA of at least 3.0 in at least nine hours of graduate work. This includes classes from all institutions attended. Candidates who do not meet the criteria for full admission may be considered for conditional admission (see requirements below).
- Supply a copy of teaching certificate(s) or license(s) when applicable.
- Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or hold a first-professional doctorate when no baccalaureate degree was offered (e.g., PharmD, etc.).
- Submit official transcripts, which can be in the form of attested credentials from a University-recognized document verification agency, of all college-level work.
- Conditional admission may be considered for those who do not meet the above criteria for full admission. To be considered for conditional admission, candidates must have a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 in their last 60 hours of undergraduate work and submit a Goal Statement along with three letters of recommendation. Candidates approved for conditional admission must achieve a minimum 3.0 grade point average in their first nine graduate hours of coursework in order to be granted full admission status.
International Student Admission Requirements
Students, whose native language is not English and who have not graduated from a University approved English speaking university, must meet the previously listed admission conditions plus the following for full admission:
- Must have a verified International English Language Testing System (IELTS) of 6.5 composite score with all bands at 6.0 or above, or an equivalent score as indicated on the University of Findlay’s English Exam Admission Standards. Full admission is dependent on satisfying all admission requirements; however, students may also receive direct admission with Graduate ESL course prerequisites if no more than two bands are under the minimum.
- Provide an affidavit of financial support (original), if not an American citizen or permanent resident.
Those applicants who do not meet full admission criteria or cannot supply a verifiable English score from one of the approved tests can receive conditional admission. Upon arrival, these students are required to test in the Intensive English Language Program, and if necessary, complete coursework in English as indicated by the University of Findlay’s placement exam scores before starting their graduate work.
