Western Riding at University of Findlay
The University of Findlay has one of the top equestrian studies programs in the nation and has set the standard for excellence in western equestrian studies for more than 30 years!
We are one of the only universities in the U.S. that has cattle for cutting on grounds in the western program for students.
At UF, western equestrian students will:
- begin caring for and riding horses in their very first year with five days of assigned time at the barn each week
- work with nationally and internationally renowned instructors
- train one-on-one with horses from all over the country in addition to University-owned horses

Students extensively cover customer relation skills in every area of our western riding program, as well as the production of a horse that is easily ridden by an owner or prospective buyer.
In addition to the intensive western riding program, a series of equine courses such as nutrition, reproduction, judging and preventive medicine complete the well-rounded course of study. Special topics covered include equine law, farm and stable management, equine marketing, therapeutic riding, equine exercise physiology and software applications for equine business management and equestrian studies.
Students are encouraged to carry a second major or minor to expand their marketability in the equine industry. Some popular choices are: Spanish, Computer Science, Marketing, International Business, and Journalism.
