Notes:

  1. Screening should be done every year with the regular Pap test or every 2 years using the newer liquid-based Pap test.  Beginning at age 30, women who have 3 normal Pap test results in a row may get screened every 2-3 years. Post-hysterectomy requirements vary and need to be discussed with the physician. (American Cancer Society, Centers of Disease Control and Prevention).
  2. Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. (American Cancer Society, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists).
  3. Men over 50 and those over 40 with a history of prostate cancer in a paternal relative should discuss their individual requirements with their physician. (CDC, American Cancer Society).
  4. The American Cancer Society recommends that some people be screened using a different schedule because of their personal history of family history. This is determined by the physician. (American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
